We aim to develop independent learners capable of deciphering for themselves what is on a music score and we cater for all standards and age groups. Our teaching methods are thorough and we deliver high quality music lessons where learners become fluent readers of conventional music notation, generating the freedom to be able to express music. Thereafter pupils continue their journey into learning how to perform expressively and interpreting music in conjunction with music exams if they so wish. We accept pupils transferring from other teachers but do not support learning by numbers or colours as it does not promote independent learning and the level of music literacy we feel is important to prioritise. Additionally a high degree of music literacy is required for grade exams and further music studies. We have high standards and believe in learning a skill properly.
The piano is a polyphonic instrument capable of rich and complex harmonies notated in both the treble and bass clef and is more challenging to master than instruments notated in just one clef. We therefore considers the type of individual piano tuition we offer as an excellent and rewarding activity for the more academically able child. We use the Associated Board, the world’s leading examination body for music for our students who choose to take this route.
